Every Bramblewood lane has its tree — the copper beech on number 12’s corner, the twin cherries halfway down Orchard Row, the oak the 1987 founders planted the week the society was born. Walk the neighbourhood in May and you walk through forty years of decisions.
Planted by hand, watered by rota
No contractor did this. Each of our 140 street and orchard trees was planted by residents and watered through its first two summers by a rota of volunteers with milk churns. The rota still runs — it’s the gentlest possible introduction to society life.
Why natives win
Hawthorn, rowan, field maple and crab apple: our planting list favours natives that feed birds and shrug off drought. A sponsored tree costs £85 — sapling, stake, mulch and two years of watering included.
Sponsor the next one
November is planting month. Choose a species, choose a spot from the warden’s map, and bring the family to dig it in — every sponsored tree gets a small plaque with your words. Sponsor through our donations page and mention “tree” in the message.
Autumn work parties
First Saturday of October and November, 10am at the orchard gate. Mulching, staking and tea. Gloves provided, children very welcome.
